Partner / Rupert Croft

Rupert Croft is head of Maitland Walker's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department.  He is a litigator whose practice focuses on general commercial, property, tax, financial services and anti-trust disputes.

Rupert qualified as a solicitor in 1992 and was made partner at Charles Russell in 1998, where he remained until joining Maitland Walker in May 2004.

Rupert has represented clients in all levels of the courts, including the House of Lords (now Supreme Court) and the European Court of Justice. In 2001, he represented clients in the ECJ establishing the right to recover damages in the EU for infringement of competition law.

The Chambers law directory recommends Rupert for litigation and describes him as “hugely intelligent, fearless and a real pleasure to work with”.

The law directory, Legal 500, recommends Rupert for both litigation and competition law, in which he has been described as “an excellent commercial litigator”, “an exceptional and heavyweight litigator”, “a star attraction and an exceptional litigator”,  an “absolutely cracking” head of litigation.  In the most recent edition, Rupert is described as "everything a client could want in a solicitor".

Rupert is cited as an expert in EU and Competition law in the Legal Business Report and has been short-listed as Competition Lawyer of the Year by Legal Business. He has spoken regularly at IBC conferences on property law and contributed on competition issues to BBC radio and Legal Network TV.

Rupert is a member of the Property Litigation Association, the Competition Law Association, the Law Society’s Dispute Resolution Section and the British Institute of International and Comparative law. Rupert is also an accredited mediator.

Rupert lives near Cheltenham with his wife and two children and enjoys watching and playing a variety of sports.
